Is GambleGuard really free?
Yes, 100% free forever. The core recovery tools will always stay free. We do not believe a financial barrier should stop anyone from getting help.
How is my data protected?
Your journal and personal data are encrypted in transit and at rest, with rules so only you can access your own data. We never sell, share, or monetize it.
Can I use GambleGuard on my phone?
The Chrome extension is desktop only, but the full web app (Streak AI, journal, calming tools, and the vault) works on mobile at gambleguard.net. Mobile extension support is on the roadmap.
Who created GambleGuard?
It was built by Jonathan Parran, after watching gambling addiction affect people close to him, to make free, judgment-free recovery tools.
Is this a replacement for therapy?
No. It is a supplement, not a replacement for professional treatment. If you are struggling, please also reach out to a licensed therapist, or call 1-800-522-4700.
Streak AI
How is Streak AI different from ChatGPT?
It runs on a model tuned specifically for gambling recovery, informed by addiction research, CBT, motivational interviewing, and resources from NCPG, GamCare, and Gamblers Anonymous.
What data does it use to personalize?
It pulls your real data in the moment: your current streak, recent blocked-site attempts, your journal, and the conversation, so the support fits your situation.
Does it remember our conversations?
Yes. It keeps context within a session and builds on what you have discussed rather than starting fresh each time.
Is my conversation used to train AI models?
No. Your conversations are never used for training. They are only used in the moment to respond to you, and you can clear your history any time.
What if it gives bad advice?
Streak AI offers supportive guidance, not medical advice. Always consult a professional for serious concerns, and you can redirect the conversation any time.
How is the journal different from Streak AI?
The journal is for structured reflection and tracking patterns over time. Streak AI is for real-time conversation and in-the-moment support. Use both for the best results.
Chrome extension
How do I install the extension?
Install from the official Chrome Web Store listing by gambleguard.net. Beware of imitations. We will never ask for payment or sensitive information through the extension.
Does it track my browsing history?
No. We only detect and block gambling sites. The only thing recorded is blocked gambling attempts (the domain and time) to help your recovery.
What is protected by the whitelist?
A list of 50+ recovery and mental-health resources that are never blocked, including GamCare, Gamblers Anonymous, NCPG, BeGambleAware, GamStop, and SAMHSA. You will never be blocked from getting help.
Can I bypass the blocker?
You can, but we nudge you to try a breathing exercise or Streak AI first. It is friction to break the impulse, not an unbreakable wall. With Strict Mode on, bypasses count as relapses.
What is Strict Mode?
It adds accountability. Visiting gambling sites counts as a relapse, and after repeated relapses it can lock so you cannot disable it in a weak moment.
How does it sync with the web app?
Sign in with the same account on both and your blocked attempts sync securely, feeding Streak AI and your dashboard.
Will it slow down my browser?
No. It is lightweight and only activates on gambling-related sites.
How do I report a missed site?
Use the report form below, or report it from the extension. We review submissions and add new sites within 24 to 48 hours.
Commitment Vault
What does the vault use?
ETH on the Ethereum network, secured by the blockchain, with the contract verifiable on Etherscan.
What do I need to use it?
A crypto wallet like MetaMask, some ETH to lock, and a small amount of ETH for gas fees.
What are gas fees?
A small network fee to process your transaction, like a transaction fee at a bank. It varies with network traffic.
Can I unlock early in an emergency?
No, and that is the point. There is no emergency unlock, no admin override, no exceptions. Only deposit what you can afford to lock away.
Can GambleGuard access my funds?
No. The vault is self-custodial. Only you hold the keys. We never have access to your wallet or deposited funds, and the contract cannot be changed once deployed.
What if I lose access to my wallet?
If you lose your wallet, you permanently lose access to the vault. We cannot recover it. Secure your wallet carefully.
What if GambleGuard shuts down?
Your vault still works. It lives on the blockchain, not on our servers. As long as the network exists, you can withdraw after the unlock date.
How does Strict Mode interact with the vault?
Optional. With Strict Mode and the extension connected, visiting gambling sites can extend your lock, adding real consequences. It is opt-in only.
Is the contract audited?
The code is open and verifiable on-chain, and intentionally simple. You are welcome to review it yourself or have a developer verify it.
What if the ETH price changes?
You deposit and withdraw in ETH, so its value moves with the market. Crypto is volatile, so only lock what you can afford to.
Account and technical
How do I reset my streak?
In Settings, change your streak start date. Be honest with yourself, the streak is for you.
How do I delete my account?
In Settings, Delete Account removes all your data from our servers. It does not affect any blockchain vaults you have created.
I forgot my password
Use the Forgot Password link on the login page. Check your spam folder if the email does not arrive.
The extension and web app are not syncing
Make sure you are signed in with the same account on both, sign out and back in, and clear your cache if it persists.
The AI is not responding
Services may have brief downtime. Wait a minute and try again. If it continues, contact us and we will look into it.
Report a gambling site
